Environmental Design
Background:
Meggs’ Art & Design School was a project I worked on for my History of Graphic Design class. Throughout the semester we kept a journal of all of our favorite photos from our textbook (Megg’s History of Graphic Design - Philip B. Meggs & Alston W. Purvis). At the end of the semester our professor asked us to gather all of our favorite photos and create a “container” for those photos (i.e. a magazine, brochure, museum, clothing line). For my container, I have chosen to create a fictional design school. I was heavily influenced by the designer Paula Scher, and the way she incorporates typography and design into architecture.
The Goal:
My goal was to decorate my design school with my favorite pieces from each style. In order to do so, I decided to theme each exhibit by decorating the rooms with art pieces that share the same style and come from the same era.
